The Editing Clauses in Writing Contracts

Last week the internet was buzzing with comment and discussion about Mandy DeGeit's blog about her experience with a small press which rewrote her story without her consent under the guise of editing. You can read other comment on this here.

All this prompted Victoria Strauss at Writer Beware to blog on exactly what you should look out for when your contract arrives. Tracking Your Rights

Over on Lisa L. Hannett's blog as well as on his own blog, Peter M. Ball talks about keeping track of your rights with some useful suggestions as to how and why it's so important. Peter is the author of Horn and Bleed, both published by Twelfth Planet Press, as well as multiple short stories. A Ditmar and Aurealis winner, he is also one of my Clarion South cronies.

Aurealis Awards 2011 Winners

The winners of the Aurealis Awards 2011 were announced last night in Sydney. The Aurealis Awards are one of the most significant speculative fiction awards in Australia and this year's winners are an impressive group. It's particularly interesting that all the winning short stories were published by small, local, independent presses. It augurs well for the future of the genre in Australia.
